Manga Review: Fairy Tail

The biggest success of well-known mangaka Hiro Mashima. Fairy Tail started in 2006 and even now it’s still very popular!

fairytail

Hiro Mashima was born on the 3rd of May 1977. It was always his wish to become a mangaka. Even as a child he loved to read manga and after reading he used the manga as an example to draw something himself. After highschool Mashima went to a special school for manga artists, but he never finished it. He once said, that even though the school was useful in helping people learn the technique, it wouldn’t help him become a published manga artist.

In 1999 Mashima had a break through with the manga Rave, which was published in Kodansha’s weekly shonen magazine. The series ran from 1999 till 2005 and there was even an anime made based on the manga. A year later Mashima came with the double as popular Fairy Tail, which was also published in Kodansha’s weekly shonen magazine.

The company that publishes the manga of Hiro Mashima is: Kodansha Ltd. One of Japan’s biggest publication companies. The current president is: Yoshinobu Noma, and the company publishes books, magazines, manga, music, cd’s and dvd’s.

Fairy Tail is a manga that fits in more than one category, among which action, adventure, comedy, fantasy and shonen. In the first couple of chapters the drawing style looks similar to Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece, but along the way the style starts looking more and more like the style in the Fairy Tail anime series. Even the name of this series has a hidden meaning. It’s not a misspelling, to the contrary, it adds something to the story:

“Do fairies really have a tail? Do they even exist…just like them, this place is an everlasting mystery…an everlasting adventure!” – Makarov Dreyar talking about the true meaning of Fairy Tail in Now We’re Even.

Personally I’d definitely recommend Fairy Tail. It’s not only very exciting, but also funny and mainly also moving. By just reading the manga, or by watching the anime, you learn important lessons about friendship and perseverance. To me Fairy Tail has become an essential adventure and I hope to be able to share that with everyone.

Haai! Cheers~!
