After the release of her album IV last year paired together with a European tour, Yuko Araki is set to tour Europe again this month with a new album called Zenjitsutan – 前日譚, which was released on the 30th of August through the Australian label Room40. The tour will be a bit smaller this year focusing on Austria and neighbouring countries Italy and Switzerland.
Multi-instrumentalist Yuko Araki, known for her role as the drummer in KUUNATIC, has been active performing noise drone sets and releasing a series of numbered albums over the past couple of years. Her new album Zenjitsutan – 前日譚 has a slightly different naming scheme from the other albums in her numbered series as it means prequel in Japanese and it serves as the 0 (Zero). When Yuko Araki started with her solo work she mainly performed improvised noise sets and due to many DIY labels asking for releases some of these sets got released. Replicating her live performances as an album felt impossible and she stopped these releases after a while focusing on industrial/beats instead.
Over the years, the itch to perform improvised noise sets again started to grow, especially when attending local noise gigs in Tokyo, where she likes to hang out. As such, this album was born inspired by the music that started out her journey as a soloist which makes for an excellent prequel. Last year Europe had the chance to experience her music live for her album IV tour and this month we will once again have the chance with a tour serving as a promotion to her new album.
