Otoboke Beaver will not play one Dutch show, not two, but three Dutch shows. The punk-rock-garage quartet from Kyoto confirmed that they will perform on Friday 14 February with the Korean skate punk band Drinking Boys and Girls Choir at Doornroosje in Nijmegen. This means that Valentine’s Day 2020 can become very interesting for those who are interested to see these bands live. Another show of Otoboke Beaver and Drinking Boys and Girls Choir was confirmed last week, planned on 13 February at Vera in Groningen.
The band Drinking Boys And Girls Choir is not an unknown name as they have performed before with Otoboke Beaver in 2018, during the United Kingdom tour. They come from Daegu in South Korea and that city was famous for hardcore punk during the boom of indie music in Korea in the late 1990s and early 2000s, but it is hard to find the legend since the scene has moved to Seoul. The members of the Drinking Boys and Girls Choir were inspired at the time but were not actually witnessed close, making it similar and irrelevant to any punk band. The band consists of guitarist and vocalist myorori, bass player and vocalist Meena Bae en drummer and vocalist Myeongjin Kim.
The name Otoboke Beaver is taken from a local love hotel and got formed in the Summer of 2009. The band calls itself as the Japanese ‘knock out of pound cake’ band and sings only in Kyoto street language. Otoboke Beaver consists of head vocalist and guitarist Accorinrin, guitarist Yoyoyoshie, bassist Hiro-chan and drummer Pop. Earlier this year, the band released the album ITEKOMA HITS, a compilation album with a few new tracks. The first introduction of Otoboke Beaver in The Netherlands was during Lowlands 2019, which makes it the second time for the quartet to come to The Netherlands for performances coming February.
