This coming week, psych-rock band TEKE::TEKE will be in Europe for a number of shows in France and the United Kingdom. The final show in London was recently added to the schedule and is free to attend.
Based in Montreal, Canada, the seven-piece band uses traditional Japanese instruments such as the shakuhachi, as well as guitars, trombone and drums. This allows the musicians to create an interesting experimental mix with clear elements of Japanese folk, psychedelia and surf rock, enhanced by Maya Kuroki’s interesting vocals, which can go in any direction.
In 2021, the group released their debut album, Shirushi, followed in June 2023 by their second album, Hagata. A deluxe version of this album was released earlier this year, filled with remixes and a brand new track. In 2024, one of TEKE::TEKE’s tracks was used in the trailer for Ubisoft’s video game Assassin’s Creed: Shadows.
