Experimental rock band Kukangendai will return to Europe for a short autumn tour of five shows in four countries. The trio plans to play an extensive set featuring a number of new songs.
The Kyoto-based band is known for deconstructing rock music through repetition, tension and rhythmic shifts, working with the process of editing, replicating and deliberately creating errors. The result is that they undergo a process of innovation and style changes, making them difficult to label. Although they have been pigeonholed in a certain music genres over the years, the trio wants nothing to do with it.
Since forming in 2006, the trio has released several albums, the most recent of which, Tracks, came out in 2023. The trio has also collaborated with Ryuichi Sakamoto, poet Gozo Yoshimasu, and the Contact Gonzo collective, among others, and has composed music for live performances, theatre plays, fashion shows, and exhibitions. In 2016, the band opened their own studio and concert venue, Soto, in Kyoto, in order to hear music they had never heard before. The band consists of vocalist and guitarist Junya Noguchi, bass guitarist Keisuke Koyano and drummer Hideaki Yamada and has toured Europe several times, most recently in 2023 and 2021.
