After a hiatus of several years, pop punk band MIKABOMB are back in business. What began with a spring tour in Japan will be followed by a tour through the United Kingdom in August, but first MIKABOMB will travel to the Netherlands at the end of June for a performance at the Japan Festival in Amstelveen.
After performances in Kyoto, Kobe, Osaka, Tokyo, and Fukuoka in April, the four-piece band will perform at the free event Japan Festival on Stadsplein in Amstelveen on 29 June. MIKABOMB will then give a handful of performances in the United Kingdom, including at Moseley Punk & Hardcore Festival in Birmingham and Rebellion Festival in Blackpool.
MIKABOMB started in London when vocalist Mika Handa arrived in the United Kingdom with the mission of starting a punk band. This resulted in a full-fledged band and a record deal with Beastie Boys’ label Grand Royal. After releasing several singles, Grand Royal went out of business, and MIKABOMB managed to release their debut album, The Fake Fake Sound of MIKABOMB, on another label, Damaged Goods, in 2001. This album was followed up by another album, HellCats, four years later.
In 2006, the band split up, only to return in 2010 with a new line-up and occasional performances in Europe. Eventually, the band went quiet until the beginning of this year, most likely due in part to the pandemic. It was announced that the Japanese pop-punk band would be going to Japan for the first time for a five-show tour. The band currently consists of vocalist Mika Handa, guitarist Mel Roxy, bassist Emiko, and drummer Debbie. The band name is sometimes also written as MIKA BOMB, due to the bullet hole between MIKA and BOMB in the logo.
