We know her as risu, r_i_s_u and RIS, but these days the Tokyo-based singer-songwriter, guitarist and entertainment has renamed her solo project RIS-707, though she is still RIS herself, the addition of the three digits coming from her trusty guitar synthesizer Roland G-707. With this name for her solo project—which RIS was already using for her social media accounts and domain name—it is now only convenient to increase her global visibility.

The pop musician already has several releases to her name, including 22ND CENTURY GIRL which appeared under the name risu in 2009, BRIGHT-EYED AND BUSHY-TAILED under the name r_i_s_u in 2012, OVERKILL under the name RIS in 2017, to name a few. Last year, she had already started concentrating on producing new music, falling under pop music with clear influences of alternative rock, think glam, punk, new wave, synthpop and dance-punk. She has had several interesting collaborations, including Yellow Magic Orchestra lyricist Chris Mosdell, as well as MIYO-KEN (MORTAL, M-AGE, u crack irigaru). Since 2021, RIS-707 became a part of the Tokyo-based label Ubiq Artists to reach more audiences in Japan, as well as beyond.

RIS kicked off the year 2023 well with the digital single PLASTIC SAKURA. And now we can look forward to another new single, also digital, BLACK NIGHT KITTY, on Wednesday 15 March. Just like the previous release party, last February for PLASTIC SAKURA, this will be streamed live and the good news is that it will be for free for those who cannot attend the show in Tokyo. Though it is good to know that there will be no archive of the stream.

The release party for BLACK NIGHT KITTY will be on Sunday 19 March, where there will be a special acoustic show by RIS-707 where RIS and MIYO-KEN will perform together. There will also be a chat about the new single and Chris Mosdell, with MIYO-KEN and, of course, RIS. The show will be kicked off at 19:00 Japanese time, which means: 11 am Dutch time, 10 am in the United Kingdom.

What will happen after this single release? According to RIS-707‘s website, we can already start looking forward to an album.
