Key visual for "My Home Hero (マイホームヒーロー)"My Home Hero (マイホームヒーロー)

Type: Anime
Studio: Tezuka Productions
Genres: Drama, Suspense
Based on the eponymous manga by Masashi Asaki and Naoki Yamakawa.

Starts airing: April 2nd
Number of Episodes: Unknown

An average man, Tetsuo Tosu discovers his daughter has been physically abused by her boyfriend, Marori Nobuto. Tetsuo tries to learn more about him, only to discover Nobuto is scheming to extort money from his daughter’s wealthy grandparents with the support of a crime syndicate, as well as having a history of killing his ex-girlfriends. To protect his daughter, Tetsuo kills Nobuto, and with help of his wife Kasen manages to get rid of the body. Now the crime syndicate is trying to locate Nobuto, Tetsuo and Kasen have to prevent their daughter from getting involved and protect her from harm.

Recommended by AlexD:
For me the plot alone got me hooked and I can already see audiences being hooked each week with each plot twist and development. With the iconic Tezuka Productions behind it, I’m sure this is going to be a strong candidate for anime of the year.

Key visual for "Yamada-kun to Lv999 no Koi wo Suru (山田くんとLv999の恋をする)"Yamada-kun to Lv999 no Koi wo Suru (山田くんとLv999の恋をする)

Type: Anime
Studio: Madhouse
Genres: Comedy, Romance
Based on the eponymous manga by Mashiro.

Starts airing: April 2nd
Number of Episodes: Unknown

After her gamer boyfriend cheats on her with another girl, who he met in-game, Akane Kinoshita takes out her anger in-game by beating up monsters. While she’s busy killing she has a chance encounter with a guildmate who has maxed out his gaming stats. His real name is Akito Yamada and he’s a highschooler, just like Akane. Even though he is unsociable and blunt, Akito manages to capture Akane’s heart, but can she capture his?

Recommended by Yuki:
I think there’s a lot of potential for funny and sweet moments in this storyline. I like how it sort of goes against the stereotypical ugly obsessed gamers that is often portrayed, even though the non-sociable and inexperience in love stereotypes are still there. Those last two are often enough part of a romance anime, even when it doesn’t involve gamers. I wonder how their relationship will develop and what funny moments lay ahead.

Key visual for "Skip to Loafer (スキップとローファー)"Skip to Loafer (スキップとローファー)

Type: Anime
Studio: P.A. Works
Genres: Drama, School
Based on the eponymous manga by Misaki Takamatsu.

Starts airing: April 4th
Number of Episodes: Unknown

Iwakura Mitsumi is an ambitious girl from a small town in the spring of her life, she aims at the best of the best. Doing everything in her grasp to get to a prestigious university and ready to make a change. That said, Tokyo is a big step. Will she be ready for city life, and how much will her new classmate Shima Sousuke play a part in her adventure through the woods of corporate buildings and arcade halls?

Recommended by Natsu:
Mitsumi is such a realistic character showcasing the fun and anxiety that comes with big changes. This coming of age series has a lot of relatable characters making it a very easy and enjoyable watch. The manga is still ongoing, so if this pops off I am definitely looking forward to season two already!

Key visual for "Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Bakuen wo! (この素晴らしい世界に爆焔を!)"Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Bakuen wo! (この素晴らしい世界に爆焔を!)

Type: Anime
Studio: Drive
Genres: Comedy, Fantasy
Based on the eponymous light novel by Kurone Mishima and Natsume Akatsuki.

Starts airing: April 6th
Number of Episodes: Unknown

A Konosuba prequel set in the Crimson Magic Clan covering Megumin and Yunyun’s school days. Both at the top of their class, but already set on different paths as Yunyun is set to start learning advanced magic whilst Megumin starts her journey of explosion magic.

Recommended by AlexD:
As a huge fan of Konosuba, it is a must watch for me this season. Particularly as it has been a few years since the last Konosuba anime project, it will tide us over until season 3, whilst developing Megumin and Yunyun more as characters, alongside some hilarious hijinks.

Key visual for "Watashi no Yuri wa Oshigoto desu! (私の百合はお仕事です!)"Watashi no Yuri wa Oshigoto desu! (私の百合はお仕事です!)

Type: Anime
Studio: Passione & Studio Lings
Genres: Comedy, Girls Love
Based on the eponymous manga by Miman.

Starts airing: April 6th
Number of Episodes: Unknown

After colliding with a fellow student and breaking said student’s arm, Hime Shiraki finds herself working at Café Liebe as a waitress. As Hime wants everyone to see her as sweet and helpful, she is horrified to find out one of her new co-workers seems to see through her façade. In front of the costumers the two have sweet interactions, but behind the scenes Mitsuki hates Hime’s guts. Which makes life harder for Hime, given that she has a crush on Mitsuki.

Recommended by Yuki:
The set-up for this anime seems like a fun way for their relationship to start and it offers plenty of opportunity for funny and awkward moments. I wonder why Mitsuki dislikes Hime so much. Overall I think this’ll be a fun and light series to watch. If you like Shoujo Ai (and comedy) be sure to try this one out.

Type: Anime
Studio: Millepensee
Genres: Action, Adventure, Fantasy
Based on the eponymous light novel by Rein Kuwashima and Miku.

Starts airing: April 7th
Number of Episodes: Unknown

Yuya Tenjo has always been called weak, ugly & fat. He would get bullied by his classmates and even his younger brother & sister joined in. The only person on his side was his grandfather but sadly he passed away recently. To his parents’ big surprise, his grandfather decided to leave the house and everything within it to Yuya and they weren’t happy with it. They used this moment as a chance to make Yuya leave the house and let him live on his own.

When Yuya goes to his new home he finds a mysterious door in the back which allows him to travel to another world & not only that he unlocked an RPG style stats/skills system. Improving his stats seemed to improve his physicality too. Is this a chance to spin his life around?

Recommended by Lecros:
Another classic teen power fantasy isekai but the thing I really like about this one is the fact that his life in the normal world is still an important part of the story. Yuya his core values still stem from his life with his grandfather and he can use his new found abilities to help out others. It’s also nice to see how he invokes jealousy from his siblings but doesn’t gloat in it & still tries to be there for them.

Key visual for "Rokudou no Onna-tachi (六道の悪女〈おんな〉たち)"Rokudou no Onna-tachi (六道の悪女〈おんな〉たち)

Type: Anime
Studio: Satelight
Genres: Comedy, Romance
Based on the eponymous manga by Yuuji Nakamura.

Starts airing: April 8th
Number of Episodes: Unknown

Imagine somehow ending up at one of the worst schools in the country. Not even the teachers can keep this school under control. But the weak, timid and quiet Rokudou Tousuke still ends up there and gets picked on by everyone, even the girls. In desperation he tries to use an ancient artefact: A scroll that would allow him to defeat demons. However after all of these years it’s effect became a little different and now all of the delinquent girls are interested in him. This wouldn’t be so bad if he didn’t also catch the attention of the strongest and most terrifying girl of them all: Himawari Ranna.

Recommended by Lecros:
There were a lot of romantic harem comedies back in the day however nowadays I find it hard to find a good one. Rokudou no Onna-Tachi has a very fun vibe where we have a weak guy trying to improve life for himself & his friends by using his power. However he slowly starts to wonder if it’s morally correct to use a power that manipulates other people while at the same time running into people that leave him with no choice to use it anyways.

Type: Anime
Studio: Studio Signpost
Genres: Comedy
Based on the eponymous manga by Taku Kawamura.

Starts airing: April 9th
Number of Episodes: Unknown

Following the adventures of 2 elementary school kids as transfer student Takada slowly brings shy, awkward Nishimura out of her shell and the pair begin to develop a friendship over the course of a summer together.

Recommended by PHX:
Anime like this one have the potential to have a mix of heart-warming and endearing moments as the young protagonists forge their friendship. Plus, a decent helping of hilarity as the usually shy Nishimura is likely put into situations and activities that are well out of her comfort zone. If they get the mix right, it will be great, and I look forward to seeing how it develops.

Key visual for "Kimi wa Houkgo Insomnia (君は放課後インソムニア)"Kimi wa Houkgo Insomnia (君は放課後インソムニア)

Type: Anime
Studio: LIDENFILMS
Genres: Romance
Based on the eponymous manga by Makoto Ojiro.

Starts airing: April 11th
Number of Episodes: Unknown

Personable, friendly Isaki and grouchy Ganta begin to forge an unlikely friendship under the stars after meeting by chance in the former home of the school astronomy club. The pair using their time together to talk and help each other with their shared affliction in the safety of the school’s abandoned and, rumour has it, haunted observatory.

Recommended by PHX:
The plot has me intrigued and slice of life anime are usually good to relax, watch and become immersed in the story. I expect a mixed bag of different emotions to be conveyed as well as potentially a lot more to the story than might appear on the surface. Is the observatory really haunted? How will their friendship grow? What things will be discovered? I want to discover the answers to these questions…

Key visual for "Niehime to Kemono no Ou (贄姫と獣の王)"Niehime to Kemono no Ou (贄姫と獣の王)

Type: Anime
Studio: J.C. Staff
Genres: Fantasy, Romance
Based on the eponymous manga by Yuu Tomofuji.

Starts airing: April 20th
Number of Episodes: Unknown

After a great war between humanity and beastkind ended, an annual tradition started where a female sacrifice would be offered to the King of Beasts. And now, it’s time for its 99th sacrifice to head his way. Despite her fate 15-year-old Sariphi is optimistic and fearless towards the beasts. This intrigues the King of Beasts and he decides to let her roam around his kingdom until the night of revelation, despite what others might think.. or how this may affect the future of the kingdom and the world.

Recommended by Yuki:
Looking at the history of this world and the relationship, or lack thereof, between humans and beasts, this seems like it’ll be an interesting and heart-warming love story. I wonder how all of it will unfold and how their relationship will grow in this world that doesn’t seem to set them up for success.
