After a month-long presence at the World Expo in Dubai for performances last month, the drummers of Yamato will return to Europe. Starting from the 20th of April, they will perform in the Netherlands until the end of May. Then they will return to Japan until November. Then they will return to Europe again for shows in Poland, the Czech Republic, and Germany, until the end of January 2023.

It has been three years that Yamato – the drummers of Japan – toured through Europe, this was of course due to the pandemic as they tour Europe once every two years. With the new show Tenmei/天命 (translated: destiny), the drummers will use the Japanese drums to overwhelm the viewer with sound, energy and emotion. For the tour through the Netherlands, 22 shows are scheduled to take place from Hoorn to Utrecht. If you want to see how that looks visually, you are in luck as the drummers made a tour map on Google Maps.

Wednesday 20 April, 2022: Het Park – Hoorn, Netherlands
Thursday 21 April, 2022: Stadstheater – Zoetermeer, Netherlands
Friday 22 April, 2022: Chasse Theater – Breda, Netherlands
Saturday 23 April, 2022: Stadsgehoorzaal – Leiden, Netherlands
Sunday 24 April, 2022: Schouwburg Venray – Venray, Netherlands
Thursday 28 April, 2022: Schouwburg De Meerse – Hoofddrop, Netherlands
Friday 29 April, 2022: De Tamboer – Hoogeveen, Netherlands
Saturday 30 April, 2022: Parktheater – Eindhoven, Netherlands
Sunday 1 May, 2022: Nieuwe Luxor – Rotterdam, Netherlands
Saturday 7 May, 2022: Zaantheater – Zaandam, Netherlands
Wednesday 11 May, 2022: Schouwburg Hengelo – Hengelo, Netherlands
Friday 13 May, 2022: TAQA Theater de Vest – Alkmaar, Netherlands
Saturday 14 May, 2022: Parkstad Limburg Theaters – Heerlen, Netherlands
Wednesday 18 May, 2022: Schouwburg Amstelveen – Amstelveen, Netherlands
Thursday 19 May, 2022: Deventer Schouwburg – Deventer, Netherlands
Friday 20 May, 2022: Posthuis Theater – Heerenveen, Netherlands
Saturday 21 May, 2022: De Lievekamp – Oss, Netherlands
Sunday 22 May, 2022: Stadsschouwburg – Sittard, Netherlands
Wednesday 25 May, 2022: Castellum – Alphen aan den Rijn, Netherlands
Thursday 26 May, 2022: Rabobank Theater de Meenthe – Steenwijk, Netherlands
Saturday 28 May, 2022: Stadstheater Arnhem – Arnhem, Netherlands
Monday 30 May, 2022: Stadsschouwburg – Utrecht, Netherlands

The exact tour schedule for all performances can be found on Yamato’s website. As can be seen, the drummers were supposed to tour through the United States and Canada earlier this year, but this has been postponed.

Yamato – the drummers of Japan – were founded in 1993 in Asuka and they combine the age-old tradition of Taiko drumming with the exploration of new possibilities to play this majestic wadaiko. The drummers are recognised as a pioneer in the world of the taiko because they have broken away from the traditional boundaries of style since their foundation by also having female drummers in the company.
