AnimeCon Classic 2020 will be postponed to 2021

It has only been a short while ago when we reported on the postponement of the regular edition of AnimeCon and the news of a one-off Christmas event, but for AnimeCon Classic, it was still a ‘fingers crossed’ situation. The organisation was still preparing to hold it in September this year, but there was already some uncertainty as to whether the event would go ahead or not. Unfortunately, it has now been confirmed that AnimeCon Classic will not take place in 2021 due to the ongoing situation of COVID-19.

The organisation behind AnimeCon, J-POP Foundation, says: “Unfortunately, we cannot kick off the roaring twenties just yet. We have some more sad news to share. AnimeCon Classic in September will have to be postponed to next year, 23-25 September 2022. What to do with your ticket? Just like last year, you can hold on to it for next year, convert it to a voucher, ask for a refund or donate the money to the organization. Those who have booked a hotel room at the venue, the hotel will contact you within a few weeks.”

But there is some good news as well, as mentioned before, we all can look forward to a Christmas event at Broodfabriek in Rijswijk coming December, but the organisation also mentioned that they will organise a new edition of AnimeCon @ Home, planned for coming 12 June. It will feature the WCS Cosplay Competition and much more. Last year, the weekend of AnimeCon @ Home was filled with workshops, quizzes, interviews, music showcases and more. What we can expect for the event this year will be announced very soon.

With all the postponements and new announcements, it is time for an overview in the order of when it will take place:

12 June 2021 (Sat): AnimeCon@Home – Online
11 & 12 December 2021 (Sat/Sun): AnimeCon: Christmas Special – Broodfabriek, Rijswijk
10 to 12 June 2022 (Fri/Sat/Sun): AnimeCon Regular – Broodfabriek, Rijswijk
23 to 25 September (Fri/Sat/Sun): AnimeCon Classic – Theaterhotel Almelo, Almelo

All changes of Japan-related events and events where Japanese musicians are planned to perform are compiled in a list that you can find here. This list will be regularly updated.
