You are invited to something fun! Get Your Genki is totally not an unfamiliar name. We interviewed the label owner, Christian, in 2019, to talk about the start of the German music label and now, two years after the start, the label has released 6 compilations on cassette, a Compact Get Your Genki release on CD, several separate releases of musicians such as Takara Araki, HELLO People!! and many more.
At the end of the summer, Get Your Genki released a specially curated release in collaboration with Casimir Engine Show Podcast from the United Kingdom, titled Now That’s What I Call Genki. This special release consists of songs from the 6 Get Your Genki volumes that were released earlier and two extra songs.
On the 6th of December, that is a Sunday, Get Your Genki will have a special listening party to listen to this specific release with people who have been working on it, including Christian, the illustrator who has created the many covers for Get Your Genki releases, Ashton Laymont and at least two bands who have released music on the label will join the chat while a 1-hour long special will be shared.
The label focuses on releasing music of Japanese indie music by putting out compilations. The indie bands are maybe not for everybody well-known, but that is the interesting part. These releases by Get Your Genki gives you the chance to discover bands that haven’t had the chance of presenting themselves to a wider audience or want to plant another seed outside Japan to prepare the audience for a probably overseas tour.
What the location is for this listening party? YouTube is the place to be for this. So don’t forget to subscribe so that you don’t miss it. The time of the listening party will be at 12 PM British time and 13 PM in The Netherlands (and Germany), which makes it 9 PM in Japan. It is not the first listening party organised by Get Your Genki, a few months ago, the label did a live broadcast where they were promoting the release of the Compact Get Your Genki.
