Normally, the Japanese Print Collection Nihon no hanga in Amsterdam will present two special exhibitions in a year, one in May and another one in November. The exhibition in May was cancelled due to the situation around COVID-19, now it has been announced that the November exhibition will also not take place in 2020 and will be postponed to 2021.
In a message, signed by director Elise Wessels and curator Maureen de Vries, they shared the reason of the postponement: “After being unable to open our museum in May this year, we had hoped to open Nihon no hanga to the public this November with a snow-themed exhibition. After careful consideration, we have come to the conclusion to not open the museum this November. We feel a responsibility towards our visitors and volunteers to guarantee a safe visit to our museum. Unfortunately, we find ourselves in a difficult position with the current developments surrounding COVID-19. We, therefore, have decided to postpone our Snow Country exhibition to November 2021.”
Nihon no hanga is currently working on a digital museum environment where you will be able to view exhibitions from the past and is also working on the spring exhibition. More information about this will be shared on their revamped website.
