The mid-term results of the 2020 Sanrio Character Ranking were announced on May 12, showing Yoshikitty in the Top 5 of the current worldwide totals. Currently the top 3 consists of Pochacco on the third place, Pompompurin on the second place and Cinnamoroll on the first place. Interesting to note is that Hello Kitty is on the 7th place.
It is still possible to vote for your favourite Sanrio character once a day through May 25 (Japan time). In addition to online voting, which is available to everyone both in and outside Japan, other voting methods include buying goods at the Sanrio online shop.
Yoshikitty is also leading the results in overseas territories, currently placing #1 in Brazil, #2 in China, and #3 in Germany. This year’s results will be announced on 9 June at Sanrio Puroland.
Yoshikitty was born in 2009 as an unprecedented character who is modelled after a real person, YOSHIKI, with now over 500 items on sale. Loved both in Japan and around the world, Yoshikitty initially ranked in 12th place in 2015, and has been in the top 10 for four years straight starting in 2016. In 2018, Yoshikitty ranked 3rd place worldwide, ranking above Hello Kitty.
The Sanrio Character Ranking debuted in 1986, this year 80 different characters entered in the ranking, they have been selected from among the hundreds of Sanrio characters that exist. Sanrio’s best-known character is Hello Kitty.
