For those of us who purchased 2019’s Brand-new idol Society, an album that has now been released over three generations, all with different features – one stand-alone track hereof was STUPiD, a contagious, catchy, upbeat track with increasingly powerful vocals that highlighted each members talent. With that said, the music video release of STUPiD is a welcome addition to the third generation’s showcase, once again providing a memorable experience.
In the opening sequence, we observe Neo Trees, Chantmonkee, Toggy and Musensiteebu gorging themselves on vegetables and assorted food to the point of sickness and exhaustion, seemingly for no reason and not without punishment as they burst from their portable building or portacabin in a race across the beach, with wonderful scenery of the ocean, in a desperate rush to the isolated, solitary portable chemical toilet or portaloo.
Chantmonkee is successful and is free to vomit into what is the most awful toilet I’ve seen since Trainspotting. And just like Trainspotting, she falls into the toilet head-first as the title card is played STUPiD. Emerging into a cesspit, covered in what I suppose is meant to portray faeces, our heroes scramble for an escape, fighting amongst themselves in their dismay as a poorly-timed visitor takes a toilet break above them. Their fighting ceases and they re-group, portraying friendship and togetherness as waste rains down on them.
Working together, their teamwork allows them to escape the cesspit and we’re treated to a victory pose, with Neo Trees lifted up as the centre in a genuinely joyful moment set against an oceanic backdrop. We are then treated to the obligatory dance performance that will explode onto the live stages during their following performances. In what continues to be the musical progression of BiS, ‘STUPiD’ is another strong release to carry them down their road to success, one that is infectious and enjoyable.
Honestly though, eat sensibly my friends and practice good hygiene.
