Not long to go until Japan Festival 2018 will take place in Amstelveen. The festival started as a biennial event and for a few years, it will take every year. The 2018 edition will take place on Sunday 4 November.

On this day, the City Square (Stadsplein) will be transformed into a tradition Japan Festival area, where young and old can enjoy a festive programme for free. During this day the visitors can learn about typical cultural and food customs in Japan.

Join diverse workshops, such as calligraphy and origami, but you can also enjoy performances of martial arts and taiko. But also restaurants from Amsterdam, Amstelveen and the area will serve traditional food from Japan. The event will take place in a huge tent, so you can enjoy the festival even when the weather is not that good. There will be also a few activities outside the tent, such as diverse workshops and Japan-related exhibitions.

Inside the tent, a whole host of performers will take to the stage for a full entertainment programme. One of them is Senri Oe, a famous Japanese music artist who enjoyed great popularity in the 80s and 90s and afterwards went to the United States to become a jazz pianist. At Japan Festival 2018, he will play a few songs including tracks from his fifth jazz album Boys & Girls, which is named after one of his most famous pop tunes in Japan. The full programme can be found on the website of the Japan Festival.
