MV Review: XAI – WHITE OUT

WHITE OUT is the theme song for the anime movie GODZILLA: Planet of the Monsters

WHITE OUT is the debut single from the singer XAI and the theme song of the anime movie  GODZILLA: Planet of the Monsters. The track is produced by BOOM BOOM SATELLITES guitarist Masayuki Nakano.

XAI (サイ) is active with music since she was a child. From opera to modern pop music, she grew up in an environment full of various “songs”. For her songs are the same as oxygen. WHITE OUT is according to XAI a song that gives a variety of salvation to people in an extreme state of abyss or despair. The song gives those a healing to the hearts.

The voice of XAI is pure and pleasant for the ears, thanks to the warm tones. The added bubble effect and voice(s) give extra strength to the track when it is heavily pumping towards to end of the song. The story in the music video is about two people, someone else who sens orders through text messages. The recipients carry these assignments out. Who the person that sent out the orders is probably the singer itself. She is in the video as a singer, but also a part of the story. The enactment of these assignments provides beautiful soothing images.

WHITE OUT is a dance track that easily would attract electronic music lovers worldwide, especially with the singing voice of XAI that sometimes goes towards angelic shapes. But the track is not even the first thing that struck me. The artistic elements combined with the story in the video draw the most attention. The music video brings various spheres together, which is reinforcing the song. At one moment, it seems like as if you are watching a movie, but a moment later you see the artistic elements appearing.

With WHITE OUT as debut single XAI makes a very good impression, certainly in combination with the impressive music video.

The movie GODZILLA: Planet of the Monsters will be shown in the Japanese cinemas from November 15. WHITE OUT will be released on November 17 as together with the mini album that carries the same title.

Apart from the addition of the band logo and the song title placed, the background is completely black. In the centre of the image, two robotic hands are shown and in the middle of these hands a coin with an eye on it is placed. This is surrounded by a sort of halo and green smoke.
