Alright, you have your plane ticket, your accommodation, your passport and money. The only question that remains is what you’re going to do in Tokyo. One thing is for sure, you will not be bored because there’s enough to do! So much that you can’t even do everything you want. It may be a good idea to write down what you want and make choices. To get you started I have listed 7 fun things which you can add to your list too, if you haven’t already.
Tokyo Tower
If you like views of the city, you can go to the Tokyo Sky Tree, but personally, the Tokyo Tower seemed more fun to me. This one is less busy as well and that enlarges your chances of actually getting inside. Aside from this, Tokyo looks nicer with it’s red/white architecture. At a height of 150m you have the normal lookout platform, but for a little more money you can see even more at 250m. If it’s really clear whether you can even see Mt. Fuji! Unfortunately, I wasn’t that lucky… There is also a small temple in front of Tokyo Tower which you can visit.
Sweets Paradise
Did you go shopping in Harajuku, or did you go to Meji Shrine and exhausted? Hold on a little longer and go search for Sweets Paradise in Takeshita Dori. For about 1500 yen you can sit there for 70 minutes and stuff your face with all kinds of little cakes, ice cream, sweetness, but also cold pasta. Unlimited drinks is included. Enjoy!
Sensoji Temple
Sensoji Temple is thé temple which you really have to visit when you are in Tokyo. The temple and famous Kaminari gate isn’t only a beautiful sight, you can also buy traditional things in the little shopping streets and taste delicious foods. You can also buy souvenirs here. I can assure you, you will be here for a while!
Tower Records
Thé CD shop from Japan. Well, shop? Most shops are several stories high! Who loves music will be able to amuse themselves just fine here, but also for magazines and something to eat you’re more than welcome. You can listen to the newest releases and you can buy accessories here as well. There is something for every music lover!
Pokémon Center
Even if you’re not really a Pokémon fan, many grew up with Pokémon and that’s why the Pokémon Center is worth a visit. It’s awesome to see the sheer amount of merchandise this series has. It can be pretty busy here, there’s so much interest for these animals. I personally left with several full bags!
Japanese restaurants
Of course, there are McDonald’s, Burger Kings, Pizza and Pasta restaurants, but leave those behind you. Focus your attention to the Japanese restaurants. They are cheap, and very nice! Are you for example in Shibuya or Shinjuku? Many restaurants there have an English menu card. And if they don’t, you just point at something. It’s delicious!
Ueno Zoo/Park
Are you tired of walking around in the large residential areas? Then you can go to the Ueno Park, where you can sit and enjoy the scenery. And if that’s too boring for you you can walk into the Ueno Zoo, the zoo in Tokyo where you can enter for a mere 600 yen. There’s also the option to see panda bears in this zoo!
Aside from these 7 tips you can also do karaoke for example, go to Akihabara and Ikebukuro and many more! It’s just too much. Do a lot of research online or flip through leaflets, that’s always a good start. I hope you have a start already for your activities during your future holiday!
