We are in the middle of the summer and behind us is a really busy month of July, filled with interesting tours and Japanese music at events. There is no time to rest, because August just carries on in full swing. It seems there are so many interesting shows and events that it can sometimes be difficult to see the wood for the trees when it comes to Japanese music. This is why we launched What’s On!<\/em>, with a soft launch in May and the official first edition last month.<\/p>\n

Below, we have compiled as comprehensive an overview as possible of all Japanese music events in Europe.<\/p>\n

\n

On tour in August 2026<\/h3>\n

Doom-death band Coffins<\/strong> will return to Europe after an absence of seven years. The band has announced<\/a> 9 shows in 9 days, including a festival appearance at Brutal Assault. They will also perform for the first time in 13 years in Sweden at Doomopolis in Malm\u00f6 and Stockholm. In 2024, they released the new album Sinister Oath<\/em> ahead of the band’s 25th anniversary.<\/p>\n

Melodic hardcore and skate punk band STONE LEEK<\/strong><\/a> will return to Europe for a tour in August and September. The quartet will be touring Europe for almost one month and will perform in 26 cities across 9 countries, including the Netherlands and Belgium.<\/p>\n

Last October, TsuShiMaMiRe<\/strong> were touring in Europe. But the trio planned to return in August for performances in Switzerland, Germany, and Liechtenstein in August as part of their Oversized American Dreams in Europe<\/em><\/a> world tour, which is also named TsuShiMaMiRe’s greatest world tour. Oversized American Dreams<\/em> is the title of their recent digital single; a few days back, the band announced their 26th album, The Greatest World<\/em>, on the day that the trio celebrates the band’s 27th anniversary. The album will be released on 9 September.<\/p>\n

The idol group GANG PARADE<\/strong> will return to the United Kingdom, but this time for a tour rather than a performance at WACK UK, where they have performed twice before. This will also be their first and last<\/a> tour in the UK, as the group is due to disband shortly. The tour consists of three shows, culminating in a final show at The Underworld in London; the following day, all eleven members will take part as DJs at JPU Records\u2019 Japan Underground<\/a> in London.<\/p>\n

After touring Europe with Verde\/ in September of last year, the solo musician Takeru<\/strong><\/a> (ex-SuG) will return to Spain for two exclusive shows in Madrid and Barcelona. These will be his only showes in Europe in 2026, but if you want to see a glimpse of his performance, do read our live report about his show in London<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Osaka-born singer-songwriter Ayu Okakita<\/strong> is returning to the UK for a short tour<\/a>. She will kick off the tour in London as the headliner, with Lottie Brazier and Marina Yozora as support acts. On 12 August, she will share the stage as a support act with the Miki Berenyi Trio at the Hare & Hounds Kings Heath in Birmingham. The psychedelic rock band Hibushibire<\/strong> are returning to Europe this August with a new tour and a new album, entitled\u00a0Phantom Fuzzy Exotica<\/em>. The tour consists of more than 20 shows in August and September. More information about the tour can be found here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Electro punk duo Vaiwatt<\/strong> will perform a special show at The Flapper<\/a> in Birmingham at the end of August, the show is titled Edowave UK<\/em> and is a continuation of their Edowave events in Japan. They are joined by their friends Dead Happy, other acts are Re:O and Le Bone. This performance is part of their world tour, they were touring the United States in June.<\/p>\n

Alternative pop-rock group SOSOSO<\/strong> confirmed a busy performance schedule for August. The duo, consisting of model Miyu Ukiyo and German producer DRFTR (Read: Drifter), will perform at Hikari Festival in Berlin, Elftopia at the Belgian Ooidonk Castle in the city of Deinze and later on they will be performing at Chibicon in Switzerland. That is not everything, but they have listed all their plans in a recent Instagram post<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Punk rock band The Jungles!!!<\/strong><\/a> (including the three exclamation marks) will tour the United Kingdom for the first time this month. The band has been confirmed for Rebellion Festival 2026 on the 8th of August and continues their tour with shows in London, Preston, Manchester, Nortwich and Gateshead.<\/p>\n

Underground idols Yurapico<\/strong> and Garuda<\/strong> have been in Europe several times, they even toured together in the summer of 2024. At the end of August<\/a>, they will go only to the Netherlands and Germany for a couple of performances, starting with a show in Arnhem and continuing in Dusseldorf and Cologne. Garuda will stick around in Europe after that, as the solo musician has some extra shows scheduled in September, but more about that in our next edition of What’s On!<\/em><\/p>\n

\n

Still on tour in August 2026<\/h3>\n

The experimental progressive rock band\u00a0Green Milk From The Planet Orange<\/a><\/strong> started their extensive European tour in June, with 35 shows across 12 countries. They were in Europe earlier this year as well, seems like they love to tour on this continent. In August, they will have seven shows in Germany, France, the Netherlands, and Sweden.<\/p>\n

Broken By The Scream’s<\/strong> European tour started at the end of July and continues in August. The metal idol group just performed at Wacken Open Air and will perform at Summer Breeze and Reload Festival in August. In addition, the group has several club shows lined up, such as a show in Amsterdam op the fourth of August. More information about their upcoming tour can be found in this article<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The four-piece pop-punk band Mikabomb<\/strong><\/a> just kicked off their UK tour; in August, they will return to Moseley Punk Festival and Rebellion Festival and perform two club shows. Fukuoka-based garage punk band Love Bites<\/a><\/strong> (not to be confused with LOVEBITES) are touring the United Kingdom, joining Mikabomb. Last November, they were in the United Kingdom to tour with Mikabomb; this time they will perform four shows, including Moseley Punk Festival.<\/p>\n

LOVEBITES’<\/a><\/strong> European tour is almost at its end, as they have been touring Europe since 22 July. The power metal band has two more shows planned in August, one in France and the tour finale in the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n

Violent Magic Orchestra’s<\/a><\/strong> European tour is still ongoing, with several shows planned in August. The tour is part of their\u00a0Nostarzia Never Come Back<\/em> world tour and they will perform at a couple of festivals, such as Storsj\u00f6yran Fest, Brutal Assault, CRX Fest, Complexity Fest, Lowlands and Kontula Electronic Fest. They are still on the lookout for some extra last-minute shows, so keep an eye on their social media for more information.<\/p>\n

\n

Japanese music at events<\/h3>\n

Last July was quite a busy month in terms of Japan-related events, but the same is true for August. We will highlight the European events that features Japanese musical acts.<\/p>\n

On the last day of July, the German convention\u00a0AniMagic <\/strong><\/a>started with a packed musical programme continuing on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 August, featuring Ai Higuchi, VK Blanka, Miyu Kaneko, MADKID and ASTERISM. There will also be a programme under the banner of Sacra Music Fes., featuring the musicians Yuki Kajiura, ASCA and Siren with Izumi from SI-VIS. The event runs for three days and, alongside the usual anime screenings, also offers industry panels (Crunchyroll, Tokyopop, Kaze, Panini Manga), an artists\u2019 market and a dealer area, as well as opportunities for cosplay, food and drink, and attending panels featuring the guests of honour.<\/p>\n

Idol Con<\/strong><\/a> is an event in London entirely dedicated to the world of Japanese idol culture and everything that goes with it, such as dance routines, costumes and catchy music. For the event on 2 August, they have invited various idols, such as the virtual group Tokyo Den-Nou and the idol act Yubiningyo; neither act has performed in the United Kingdom before. Furthermore, the Scotland-based idol AIRI with bassist Ryu and the British J-Pop idol acts Odoriimin and Dear Wish will also be performing at Idol Con 2026. Tokyo Den-Nou<\/a> is a collaboration with multimedia company Denonbu Project and comprises two-thirds former CY8ER group members and a former member of BiS and CARRY LOOSE. The day before Idol Con, the group will be performing at Fire Club in London.<\/p>\n

On 22 and 23 August, the fifth edition of RakuCon<\/strong><\/a> will take place in Manchester. Over these two days, this independent Japanese pop culture event will offer a wide range of activities for fans of Japan and Japanese pop culture. After visiting the dealer room, visitors will have the chance to attend workshops and panels, play video games, admire cosplay and enjoy live performances. The organisers have confirmed that punk rock idol Mad Jamie and singer-songwriter R!N will be performing at this year\u2019s RakuCon.<\/p>\n
