Experimental psychedelic rock trio KUUNATIC cannot seem to get enough of Europe. In recent years, the trio has toured the continent several times and even gave an exclusive show in Belgium after recording their new album there. In the spring of this year, the three ladies were back on European stages with that new album, Wheels Of \u00d6mon<\/em>, in their back pocket. This autumn, they are returning for their second European tour of 2025, with performances at Oslo World Festival, Molde Mundo Festival, Le Guess Who? and Keroxen Festival, among others.<\/p>\n

Consisting of Fumie Kikuchi on keys and vocals, Yuko Araki on drums and vocals and Shoko Yoshida on bass and vocals, the musicians come from quite distinct musical and cultural backgrounds. They combine several musical genres to convey their bizarre universe, including dub music, progressive rock, psychedelic rock, traditional Japanese music, Latin music, and music from horror films. They transport listeners to their ceremonial otherworldly planet with the help of three female vocalists.<\/p>\n

Of their first album\u00a0Gate of Kl\u00fcna<\/em>\u00a0(2021) is said that it tells the story of the imaginary planet\u00a0Kuurandia (also the title of their first EP), how it began, evolved and was explored. It will be interesting in how the story will continue on the band\u2019s upcoming album,\u00a0Wheels Of \u00d6mon<\/em>. A preview of the new album has been given through the release of the digital single\u00a0Disembodied Ternion<\/a><\/em>.\u00a0According to the label Glitterbeat, on which the new album will be released, the trio made use of a variety of Japanese traditional instruments for\u00a0Wheels Of \u00d6mon<\/em>, including the sho, a traditional Japanese instrument consisting of 17 slender bamboo pipes used in gagaku, as well as the wadaiko, a large traditional drum.<\/p>\n

KUUNATIC’s European tour is scheduled for late October and early November, and in addition to a number of performances in Norway, the band will also perform in Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, and Spain. It is unclear whether more shows will be added, so keep an eye on KUUNATIC’s social media<\/a> for updates.<\/p>\n
