The album has been digitally released but it is also the first time that a physical format of One Eye Closed’s music has been been made available.

According to the mixture rock band, Adam & Eve explores the concept of a man named Abel fighting his inner demons personified into a singular character named Cain. Topics of depression, anxiety, trust issues, self-harm, and suicide are all reflected in the song lyrics and sound in hopes of reaching those who are going through the same things or something similar. The album also spans different genres and styles, showcasing just a small glimpse of what the band is capable of doing.

In total, the upcoming album will consist of 11 tracks, an interesting mix of catchy, loud and intense songs. These 11 songs on this album are from earlier released EPs Cain and Abel, but also recent singles, in the order of release. That means that there are no surprises of songs in that department, although being able to hold a physical version of the music in your hands makes it special. This new album should therefore be seen as a compilation release. Particularly interesting to note is the remaster of the track Low. The song was previously featured as the ending theme to multi-award-winning music adventure video game No Straight Roads and has gotten a new twist by Яyo Trackmaker, who is better known as the former drummer of girugamesh.

This track’s music video shows a more energetic part of the band and fits well with the track, which seems also to be the most popular single of the band. A fun fact is that guitarist None wears a Bunk Bed Junction T-shirt, which is the name of the band of Mayday and Zuke, the two main characters of the game.

Back to the album, the artwork and other designs present in the physical copy of Adam & Eve are designed by the vocalist REI. Since the album is a collection of songs from Cain and Abel and recent singles (excluding All of Us) and share a connected concept, the design is designed to be the ‘finale’ of the artwork for Cain and Abel, which were both also designed by REI. Looking at the designs of Cain and Abel, it starts to explore the concept of duality, representing the characters in the concept to be facing each other, while Adam & Eve‘s features a singular box in the centre, symbolising the characters in the concept becoming one.

The titles from the first EPs also are directly inspired by the story of Cain and Abel from the bible and also how makes an alternate persona to make things easier for him. “Putting words into a fictional character is much easier and therapeutic for me when it comes to expressing my deepest and most painful thoughts,” REI shares. The album Adam & Eve borrows from Christianity, like with Cain and Abel, but this time, the title of the new album represents the start of One Eye Closed’s journey as a band. “We’re not a Christian band, and our songs aren’t meant to be Christian songs, but we just can’t help but be fascinated with the stories and philosophies of religion and implement them into our song concepts. There are times where people go through so much pain and suffering that they question their own beliefs; we wanted to reflect that into our lyrics.”

The young rock band already have a few impressive activities to their name, including providing a track for a video game and joining JPU Records in addition to recording music while being in lockdown. An album with a collection of released singles and EPs was a logical next step and creates anticipation of what more One Eye Closed will do in the future but is also a beautiful presentation of the band’s first steps, a closure of the first phase and the start of the next phase. That makes it also a perfect introduction for those who haven’t listened to One Eye Closed before.

Adam & Eve is currently available for listening via the digital highway and available at JPU Records as a physical and downloadable version.
